Do Not Buy Twitter Followers...Ever

So the title of this article pretty much sums it all up.  However, many small business owners and Practices that are trying to stake their claim in Twitter still give-in to notion that the more followers you have, the more important you are.  So here are a few straight-forward reasons why you should save your money and not buy Twitter followers... Ever!

BRAND REPUTATION

If you buy Twitter followers you will get found out.  There are many web tools out there that can easily detect fake followers, and many Twitter users view this as a form of cheating.  In a medical professional industry your Practice's brand and your Practice's reputation are a direct reflection of the owners, Doctors, and other medical professionals.  The risk of hurting your Practice's reputation far exceeds any benefit your Practice will gain.

SPAMMERS

While buying fake Twitter followers may seem like an innocent act on your part, it may end up hurting your Practices real Twitter followers.  Not only are many of these sites that sell you Twitter followers scamming you, but they also end up spamming your other followers.  As if annoying spam wasn't enough, these sites are also tied to hacking, phishing, and infecting other users.  By going to bed with these spammers, so-to-speak, you open the door of your account being hijacked and now you become the spammer.

IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING

Focus on growing your Twitter followers organically with engaging content. A local Practice with 25,000+ followers may actually deter some true followers.

Say you happened to buy a few thousand Twitter followers.  Congratulations, you now have an arbitrary number that doesn't mean anything.  You've wasted too much of your Practice's hard earned dollars, and most of all, you wasted your time.

Remember that you are a medical professional, most likely in a "local" Practice.  Locally owned businesses and Practices do not have 25,000+ Twitter followers, most Practices with 2,000 are above average.  More than likely your Practice's patients and community are following you to stay engaged, and in many respects can be turned off if they feel that they will get lost in the follower count.

Focus on posting quality content and engaging daily with your community and colleagues.  Just like growing a Practice, grow your Twitter followers by stay grounded and genuine.

Cheers,
Craig
